Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Exceptional opportunity offered here with this truly remarkable pre-war encapsulated hockey rookie card of Ivan "Ching" Johnson. The set of cards, known simply as V129s since their manufacturer is not even known(!), is, in terms of scarcity/rarity, considered by most to be second only to Sweet Caporal postcards among pre-war cardboard collectibles which picture hockey players. Housed in an older PSA holder that shows light scratches and scuffs over both sides, the graders at the company deemed this copy of Johnson’s scare first-year cardboard worthy of a high-grade NM 7 mark, the highest grade given by the company to a Johnson rookie card, with this one joined by just two (2) others that have garnered the same designation out of the 21 submitted to the company throughout the years! The PSA Population Report is also fine indicator of the relative minuscule supply of these sepia-tone cards with only 722 of them, (all players combined!), ever having been encapsulated by the firm. The time has come to add to your important encapsulated pre-war hockey card shrine!
