Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/28/2023
Highly collected since their inception over half a century ago, bobble head dolls continue to fascinate collectors for both their charming nature and nostalgic appearance. Extremely fragile and easily susceptible to damage, we offer a complete set of 1962 Original Six "High Skates" nodders/bobble heads. Harder to locate then their regular counterparts, these "High Skates" nodders are 6 1/2" in height with team decals to the chest and no team names over the bases. All six display beautifully, and show just light wear, with the condition issues to note as follows. The Toronto doll sports a pair of very fine hairline cracks at the bottom of the head, while the Red Wings doll has one fine hairline also starting at the base of the head. The Rangers doll has two cracks along the head that were expertly repaired and are barely noticeable. We should also note that Joe Marasco has the Boston and New York "High Skates" bobble heads on his list of honourable mentions within his "Top 10 Rarity List". This is an especially pleasing group that would thrill literally any collector. This lot and many others in this auction hail from an advanced NHL and CFL nodder/bobbing head collection.
Addendum: Upon closer inspection with a blacklight, the Red Wings and Black Hawks dolls appear to have colour that was added to the head, while the Bruins doll has two very fine hairlines to the head and colour added to the face. Lastly, the Canadiens doll appears to have a bit of paint added to the eyes.
