One of the most feared forward lines in the National Hockey League during their time playing together from 1995 to 1997, the “Legion of Doom” line that featured the likes of Eric Lindros, John LeClair and Mikael Renberg was known not only for their offensive play, but also their ability to dominate games physically with all three men 6’2” or taller and weighing over 230lbs each. Registering a total of 666 points combined over the 3 seasons they played together, offered here is this “Legion of Doom” mid-to-late-1990s Philadelphia Flyers game-used equipment collection including sticks, skates and socks worn/used by each player as well as a practice jersey issued to Lindros.
Starting with the sticks, the trio includes Bauer Supreme 3030 (Lindros) Sher-Wood PMP 7000 (LeClair) and Sher-Wood SOP 9950 (Renberg) models all hailing from the time the line was together. All three sticks retain their original tape jobs over both the handles/knobs and blades with stamped identifiers over the upper shafts of all three as well while remaining intact except for a chip to the top of the toe of Renberg’s twig. Game-use is observed though puck marks over the blade tape, blades, heels and lower shafts of all three with additional marks/abrasions observed throughout as well along with some tears to the tape on the blades of LeClair and Renberg. Additionally, Lindros’ stick sports his commonly seen shaved handle and has been signed by him over the blade tape on the forehand side with a black ink signature that displays without issue despite some age.
Continuing on the skates, Bauer Supreme Composite (Lindros), CCM Tacks 352 (LeClair) and CCM Tacks 652 (Renberg) models are included. All three pairs include both the original blades and the insoles on the insides. Showing varying degrees of use, especially heavy on the LeClair and Renberg examples, all three show numerous marks and abrasions through puck and stick marks, fraying to the toe cap material and scuffs to the boot leather. All three models match up with the period of time when the three were playing together on the same line when referenced with photos from the era but it should be noted that it is believed the LeClair models may be from a bit earlier as he is only seen in photos using black coloured blade holders opposed to white. All three pairs sport player identifiers penned in various areas on each (inside tongue, on the blade holder, bottom edge of bottom) while all three have also been signed by each player in silver or black marker on one of the two skates (LeClair has signed both in silver with both autographs have smudged. Of note, the leather of all three pairs has dried out over the years and started to crack.
For the socks, a pair issued to and worn by each player is included with the lot, distinguished by their numbers written at the top of each stocking in black marker. All in good condition but going good game-wear in varying degrees, all three pairs of the long orange, black and white leg covers show marks and team repairs, heaviest on those donned by Renberg. Additionally, both Lindros and Renberg have signed both of their socks with black ink signatures.
The last item included, is an early-to-mid-1990s Flyers practice jersey issued to Lindros and signed by him over the front underneath the heat screened team crest in black marker. Showing no obvious signs of wear, the all mesh jersey is made by Bauer with the company’s logo embroidered over the rear hem and sports an “XXL” label affixed to the inner collar that has a hologram affixed. In excellent condition, a handwritten “88” is found on the underside of the neck tag in black marker.
An excellent collection from one of the best lines to ever play the game, don’t let this collection pass you by!
