Playing his junior hockey as a member of the Kitchener Rangers and North Bay Centennials in the Ontario Hockey League, Dave McLlwain would be selected 172nd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 1986 NHL Entry Draft and would go on to play in 501 National Hockey League games over the course of his time in he league with Pittsburgh, Winnipeg, New York, Buffalo, Toronto and Ottawa. Also enjoying a lengthy career over in both Switzerland and Germany, offered here is this Penguins jersey worn by McLlwain during the 1988-89 season. Made by CCM, a faded Maska Ultrafil label is affixed to the inner collar while both the CCM and Century Sports logos have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Measuring out to roughly a size "48", the front of the jersey is decorated with a screened-on Penguins team crest, which helps denote it as a set 1 specimen as the team switched to twill and embroidered accents for the set 2 sweaters that same year. Styled over the sleeves and verso with McLlwain's number "19" in dual layer black-over-white screened on numerals, "McLlwain" is spelt out in screed on single layer black letters at the top of the reverse. Dressing in just 24 games throughout the course of the season, the jersey still displays with moderate game-wear including stick marks over the front and both sleeves while board burns grace both sleeves as well, including one (1) above the right elbow that has resulted in an unrepaired small hole. Also sporting green coloured board paint transfer marks over the right shoulder and a bit of wear to the numbers on the reverse, the interior of the jersey shows a few loose threads and light salting of the fight strap.
