Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

Extremely pleasant to check out and admire is this example of Mario Lemiuex’s important 1985-86 O-Pee-Chee rookie card, the likes of which were discovered in (7-card) packs that cost 35 cents during the budding superstar’s second big league campaign. Mario’s 141 points were second only to Wayne Gretzky and to say that Lemieux impressed his peers is an understatement; NHL players voted and Mario was awarded the Lester B. Pearson Trophy as the most outstanding skater in the league. Having earned a mark of NM-MT 8 after its inspection by the graders at PSA, attributes of a high-grade offering are indeed present here. Showing with excellent colours and overall pleasing centering (despite appearing to be just a tad off from left-to-right), the corners display with what seems like the smallest bit of wear which is more obvious over the reverse side. O-Pee-Chee’s infamous rough cut edge is seen along the top but overall does not detract a lot of the visual beauty that this all-important vintage offerings picturing one of the best players in hockey history possesses.
