Compiling a total of 1029 points over the course of his 19-year National Hockey League career with 354 of them coming during his 6-year tenure in the Steel City as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, offered here is this Penguins jersey worn by Russian superstar, Alex Kovalev during the 1998-99 season, his first season in black and gold. Made by Starter with size “54-R” and “Centre Ice Authentic” labeling affixed inside the collar, the Starter logo and NHL shield have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a textured “Robo Pen” Penguins team crest, Kovalev’s number “27” has been sewn to the sleeves in dual-layer black-over-yellow tackle twill numerals with “Kovalev” spelt out across the affixed matching mesh nameplate in mirroring style. An all-mesh construction garment with the fight strap cut out of the reverse, the jersey exhibits fantastic game-wear and is riddled with numerous dark stick marks throughout the sleeves, front and reverse with additional found in the form of multiple board burns and lots of board paint transfer, all in the same areas as previously mentioned. Sporting good pilling on the reverse, the jersey is accompanied by LOA’s from both the Penguins and MeiGray as well as a MeiGray COR. Additionally, the jersey is photo-matched to an image of Kovalev found on page 45 of the Penguins 1999-2000 media guide which shows a match to the long black stick mark at Alexei’s right side and to other assorted marks seen in the picture.
