A veteran of 431 WHA games, Brad Selwood would play with the Whalers during the club’s entire tenure in the World Hockey Association, spanning from the first season in 1972-73 and staying till the end of the final campaign in 1978-79. Coming off an AVCO Cup championship the year prior, the first in the league’s history, proudly offered here is this New England Whalers jersey worn by Whalers mainstay Brad Selwood during the 1973-74 season. Sporting both Gerry Cosby and size “50” tagging sewn into the inner collar, the front of the durene material garment is decorated with a large Whalers tackle twill team crest (1973-74 jerseys were the only season with a crest this large over the front) in layered tackle twill that also features chain-stitched details. With matching “Pucky the Whale” alternate logo patches residing over each shoulder, once again with chain-stitched details, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Selwood’s number “3” in dual-layer tackle twill numerals with “Selwood” spelt out across the back in single layer deep green twill letters (1973-74 was the only year for this with this style of jersey) that are sewn directly to the jersey across the top of the back. Exhibiting good game-wear, a few light stick marks are seen over the front, left shoulder and left sleeve of the piece while team repairs are found over both sleeves, the lower front, the reverse and right shoulder. Additional wear is observed via board burns to the right sleeve along with an unrepaired hole, red paint transfer marks, with a couple more at both hips, a fabric run at the lower reverse, pilling and stretching on the interior and puckering to the crest and numbers from multiple washings. A true survivor from the rough and tumble days of the rival league.
