Winners of the first AVCO World Trophy as champions of the upstart NHL competitor WHA (World Hockey Association) for the 1972-73 season, the New England Whalers would become the Hartford Whalers after joining the National Hockey League for the start of the 1979-80 season, relocating to North Carolina and rebranding as the Carolina Hurricanes for the 1997-98 campaign which also serves as their home to this day. Up for grabs here, is this seldom seen offering in the form of a New England Whalers bobbing head doll that was produced between 1972 and 1974. Appearing to have had his block knocked off as evident by his head being separated from his body, the doll originally stood 6” tall and is stood on a blue base that measures 2 ¼” x 2 ¼”. Made in Japan and distributed by Nanco in Boston, Mass when it was produced as evident by the sticker affixed to the underside of the base, the doll is decorated with the uniform of the Whalers with a crest decal applied over his chest. Besides the obvious flaw of decapitation, the head shows some paint chips along the bottom rim and a quartet of cracks found near the left ear and back of the head while the base shows a number of chips to the blue paint.
