Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Enjoying a semi-pro hockey career that spanned three and a half seasons of play in the old Continental Hockey League for St. Louis based team such as the St. Louis Saints and the Spirit of St. Louis, we offer this mask worn by Rick Monrotus during that time frame. Designed by him but certainly based off of the shield worn by Michel Dion’s distinctive mask, the resemblance is evident by the long chin that was utilized and offered excellent throat protection. Measuring around 15” in length at the longest points, the mask, decorated with a black, white and yellow paint job, “St. Louis Eagles” and the Anheuser-Busch logo appear across the forehead. Exhibiting heavy use via countless marks, abrasions, and chips to the paint and fibreglass, most of the original padding is still present on the interior as is the original strapping harness and matching backplate. Signed by Monrotus on the right side behind the era with a fine black ink signature that displays well, the mask is sure to be an intriguing addition to your collection!
