Freshly graded PSA slabs housing the cardboard of Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita are among the highlights of this 1961-62 Topps set, released after the two Chicago sports heroes had the previous spring helped the Black Hawks triumph in the Stanley Cup finals over the Detroit Red Wings. Meanwhile, the Rangers were excited about two young rookies, with Rod Gilbert and Jean Ratelle both included within the set’s 66-card checklist and having been assessed fresh EX-MT 6 marks after their inspection at PSA. For the rest of the set, found to be in an overall consistent high-grade EX-MT to NM condition range, the exception is the lead off card of Bruins coach, Phil Watson, which is creased. For the notables, the group is led by EX-MT to NM examples of both Glenn Hall (a bit of wear at the bottom right corner) and Denis DeJordy’s RC (a bit of wear at the bottom right corner) while being followed behind by the likes of 2-Green RC (light corner wear), 8-Bucyk (rough top edge), 18-Stapleton RC (light wear to the top corners), 42-Chicago Team (light wear to three of four corners), 45-Harvey (bottom right corner ding), 63-Rangers Team (90/10 centering top-to-bottom) and 66-Checklist (unmarked). Finished out by an EX range copy of card #20, the Bruins team card, that has a ding at the bottom right corner which shows more on the reverse and a VG-EX to EX condition scope example of card #50 picturing Gump Worsley that has a bottom left corner ding and a rough top edge. Another appealing set of vintage cards from our consignor, don’t let these classic’s pass you by.
