Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
An important card that in the past has gone under the radar so to speak, likely due to it's Canadian origin, the 1923 Maple Crispette V117 Babe Ruth was issued by the Montreal candy maker during the season the Sultan garnered AL MVP status, hitting a career-high .393, while leading the Bombers to the franchise's first Fall Classic title. We offer an attractive specimen recently graded GOOD 2 by PSA. Fairly well centered, there are a few tiny marks along the right side border, with a very small area of paper loss to the left of Ruth's mouth. The reverse also sports a small blemish over the promotion text. A similar PSA graded 2 recently sold at auction for just over $9,800 with buyers premium. A total of just 29 1923 Maple Crispette Ruth cards have been graded by PSA to date including 1 with qualifier, with this card 1 of 5 at this grading tier, with 17 graded higher. While any Ruth cardboard is a sound investment, this scarce treasure has much room to climb.
