One of Canada's most historic rugby football teams, the Hamilton Tigers stretch back to 1869, and played in the noteworthy Ontario Rugby Football Union beginning in 1883. The team won five Grey Cup championships, starting in 1913. We have an original circa 1920s/30s cardigan Tigers sweater, accompanied by a trio of Panoramic team photos. First, the heavy wool solid black sweater with gold collar and striped pockets and cuffs sports a partially detached Thos. Warren Knitting Co. Toronto label to the collar, with an embroidered Tigers crest to the left breast with "ORFU", "HAAA" (the Hamilton AAA football field) and the Latin phrase "Noli Me Tangere" (Do Not Touch Me). In beautiful condition with all the buttons intact, the sweater shows just very light wear from use. All three panoramic team photos show the full squads lined-up, with the 1926 photo 6" x 34", the 1927 team photo 10" x 36", and the final photo 9 1/2" x 39 1/2". This last photo is undated, but appears to be from the Grey Cup championship season of 1913. Names are handwritten in pen for each player, with Hall of Famer Bob Isbister listed. Considering that he played for the Tigers from 1905 to 1915, and again in 1919, "Dominion Champions" appears along the base, with online information listing Isbister as a Grey Cup champion in 1913, so the photo possibly dates from that season. The photo shows considerable wear and is brittle, with a large tear at the base near the center, with additional moderate to heavier wear to the other 2 photos.
