Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

Led by the all-important rookie card of Mario Lemieux, the first year offering of Mario falls at #9 in the 264-card assembly that make up the 1985-86 O-Pee-Chee set. Displaying slightly off-center right-to-left with a manufacturer defect in the top right corner and a subsequent minuscule ding at the bottom right, we would label the card as being in the condition range of EX-MT. In a uniform EX-MT/NM condition range throughout with some exceptions here and there, key cards including 29-Yzerman, 85-Coffey (light “snow” surface wear), 110-Lindbergh, 120-Gretzky and 237-MacInnis (RC) are all found in the vicinity of the previously mentioned EX-MT/NM scope. Joining the Lemieux RC is that of 40-Bourque in the EX-MT range with a print mark at the bottom right and 60-40 centering while card #177 of Mark Messier is closer to EX condition, showing some surface wear. The goal, assist and scoring leader cards of Wayne Gretzky all remain in the EX-MT/NM scope, as does the rookie scoring leaders card of Lemieux. The two checklist cards remain unmarked and in the EX-MT/NM condition range. Of note, the second checklist, #256, shows a slight diamond cut and a blue print line over the left border.
