Hailing from years that saw the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1961) and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1965 - over the Blue Bombers), win Grey Cups as the champion of the Canadian Football League, offered here is this lot featuring a near complete set of Topps' 1961 Canadian Football League release as well as an additional near complete set of 1965 Topps CFL offerings.
Starting with the 1961 release, with a total of 131 of the 132 cards that make up the set present and accounted for, the group is seen as being in an overall average grade range of EX with card #59 of Ted Elsby being the lone missing example and card #61 of Dick Cohee damaged and worth mentioning for accuracy. For the keys, the cardboard of Jackie Parker is seen as being in the vicinity of EX to EX-MT with light wear to the surface and left border while those of 20-Kapp (tiny ding at top right corner) and 79-Lancaster RC (off-center top-to-bottom) are viewed in the range of EX for their efforts. Also including VG-EX to EX neighbourhood cards of 47-Faloney (corner wear) and 56-Patterson (light corner wear plus surface wear at the left border), the leadoff card picturing By Bailey is seen in the scope of VG to VG-EX shape with a dinged top right corner. Additionally, also including is a group of thirty-six (36) extra cards from the 1961 set that is headlined by an EX-MT to NM range copy of card #39 that pictures Jackie Parker and is in better shape than the one in the main set while an extra card of Tom Coffey is not far behind, found to be in the vicinity of EX to EX-MT while sporting 75-25 centering.
For the 1965 assembly, featuring 94 of the 132 cards that make up the set, the group is seen as being in the overall uniform condition range of EX with exceptions being a creased example of card #1 that shows Neal Beaumont over the front and a marked and creased checklist card (#85). Missing cards 6, 8, 21, 32, 35, 53, 57, 59, 60, 62, 70, 82, 91, 98, 120, 124, 128, 129, 130 and 131 for completion, the key cards are led by an EX-MT to NM copy of card #55 of Angelo Mosca while those of 33-Coffey (light factory print marks) and 96-Lancaster (light corner fuzz top left) are just behind and in the realm of EX-MT. For the rest of the key cards, 12-Kapp is around EX to EX-MT (85-15 off-center) while 110-Parker is seen around EX (light corner wear) and 51-Henley is closer to VG to VG-EX range with a small amount of damage at the right border. Also including extra cards, totalling out to 145 examples, included at EX-MT specimens of 12-Kapp (x3) and 55-Mosca (x2), EX to EX-MT cards of 33-Coffey (off-center), 51-Henley (x3) and 110-Parker (slight corner wear), a lone VG-EX to EX card of 110-Parker that is completely off-center and finally, another copy of card #12 picturing Joe Kapp that is in the neighbourhood of VG-EX due to corner wear. Overall, a wonderful lineup of CFL cardboard sure to be pleasing to our lucky winning bidder.
