Part of hockey’s most famous family, Mark Howe would play in 16 National Hockey League seasons as well as 6 in the WHA, suiting up alongside his father Gordie and brother Marty in both leagues. A 2x AVCO Cup champion and a silver medalist at the 1972 Olympic Games, Howe would be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011. Offered here, is this pair of skates worn by Mark during his final NHL season of 1994-95 as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. Easton 610 Beta models with Bauer Tuuk+ blade holders, both the boots and the blade holders show heavy game-use with numerous puck marks, cuts and scuffs to the material as well as sock pilling on the inside of each tongue, oxidization to the grommets and rusting to the blades. The Easton logos have been blacked out by Howe on each skate with marker and the toe caps of each boot has been covered with a layer of sealant. Additionally, also included with the lot is Howe’s July 1991 USA Olympian Personal Best Award. Presented to Mark in recognition of his effort to enhance the lives of others, the award, made of crystal, stands 12 ¾” tall when resting on the included wooden base that has an information plaque affixed to the front of it. Etched with the USA Olympic logo and the logo of USOC sponsor Clairol, the piece remains in good condition with the base showing some wear from age especially to the front plaque. Of note, “#13” has been penned to the bottom of the award in black marker. Originally part of Howe’s personally collection, his signed LOA’s will accompany each piece.
