Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

Remembered affectionally as “The Nose” and “The Entertainer”, Eddie Shack would enjoy an NHL career that spanned over the course of 1047 games and saw him win four Stanley Cups as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1960s. Up for grabs here, is this copy of Shack’s rookie card that is listed at #30 in the 1958-59 Topps set with this specimen having garnered a grade of VGE+ 4.5 from ACA. Off-center both bottom-to-top and a tad right-to-left with a small number of foxing spots around the edges on the front, subgrades of Corners 7, Edges 7, Surface 5 and Center 4 have been designated over the back of the label. Described on the back as both colourful and aggressive, we would say that’s a pretty spot on analysis of Eddie. Housed in an ACA holder, we observed light scratches and scuffs worthy of mention.
Of note, please be aware that the grading standards followed by ACA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
