Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
A star of the early game with both Eckford and the Philadelphia Athletics during the Civil War era, Al Reach followed in the footsteps of A.G. Spalding and formed his own sporting goods company, later selling to Spalding in 1889. The name lived on through a line of sporting goods, with the first Reach plant opening its doors in Canada in about 1907. We have a trio of Reach items, along with a turn of the century publication with beautiful baseball graphics. Included, there is a 1922 Reach summer catalog (complete, with handling wear), a circa 1915 Reach scorecard advertising that Reach was the official World Series ball - with a female line-up listed in the interior in pencil, and a circa 1910 cabinet photo showing a full-size baseball player ice sculpture in front of a period Montreal business with a Reach flange sign embedded in the sculpture (7" x 9", these ice sculptures were popular forms of advertising for businesses in Quebec during the era). Lastly, the Physical Culture publication is from 1902 and features a stunning baseball collage (moderate wear). From the Brent Sobie antique hockey and baseball collection.
