Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Still considered one of the most popular names in the hobby and the subject of possibly the most iconic rookie card the sport has ever had printed, offered here is this collection of seventeen (17) cards from various 2002-03 Upper Deck releases, largely made up of memorabilia offerings, featuring HOFer Wayne Gretzky. Including three non-memorabilia cards with Wayne seen in the uniforms of the Oilers, Kings and Rangers from Upper Deck Foundations, a game-used stick card of Gretzky numbered “070/150” is present to lead off the memorabilia offerings. The jersey cards start with a pair from Premier Collection including the regular and silver set variations numbered “272/299” and “94/99” respectively. Another duo comes from SPx in the form of “Smooth Skaters” offerings, including the silver parallel, numbered “64/99” and “09/50”. A quintet of cards picturing Wayne during All-Star Games is also included and noteworthy, embedded with pieces of jersey worn by “The Great One” during the 1991 contest and in two cases, paired with swatches from the 1996 All-Star Game as well, numbered “39/50” and “42/50. Also present, and hailing from SP Authentic, is a card featuring Wayne alongside Mario Lemieux that is numbered “185/299” and a Clutch Performers solo jersey card from UD Top Shelf that is numbered “41/75. The last two are also single jerseys cards of Wayne, not numbered and sporting swatches of Kings jersey once worn by hockey’s greatest player. All remaining in good condition, very light edge and corner wear is consistently throughout all those included in the group.
