This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
The greatest hockey player the small town of Selkirk, Manitoba ever produced along with fellow HOFer Harry Oliver, "Bullet" Joe Simpson was born in 1893. First starring for the famous Allan Cup-champion 1916 Winnipeg 61st Battalion, Simpson later played out west, and then saw six seasons of action with the New York Americans in the 1920s. This 1908 Selkirk Hockey Team cabinet photo includes a 15-year old Bullet Joe. A secondary photo produced in the 1920s, the full team is pictured, with Simpson in the upper right back row. Set in likely the original period frame to full dimensions of 15" x 17", the photo remains in beautiful condition with no issues. Regarding provenance, this was purchased from a noted Selkirk collector along with the 61st Battalion photo and matching military pins. From the Brent Sobie antique hockey and baseball collection.
