Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Relive the days of collecting on the schoolyard and trading with your friends as most of the cards found in this massive lot come from the years before the hobby boomed. With overall condition ranging from poor to excellent with a few higher examples mixed throughout as well, there are prime examples of how cards were treated in an era where investing and keeping cards in prime condition was not on the minds of the people that bought them as they were instead after the sickening-sweet pink gum that we all miss today! Consisting of approximately 5500+ cards, years present that make up the bulk of the collection include 1977-78 OPC, 1979-80 OPC and 1980-81 OPC with some small groupings of cardboard from 1974-75 OPC and 1978-79 OPC mixed in as well as some 1970s and 1980s OPC baseball cards dotted throughout. Starting with the 1977-78s that total approx. 2000+, the bevy of offerings include those twenty-three (23) checklist cards that range from very low grade and up with nine (9) remaining unmarked while the rest sport pen in a variety of colours. Followed up by one hundred (100) team checklist cards, once again ranging from very low condition and up and including both marked and unmarked examples, ninety-six (96) team logo cards in the same grade scope are also included as are approx. 100 cards displaying stars and minor stars such as Dryden, Parent, Perreault, Clarke, etc. Lastly, fifteen (15) Guy Lafleur record breaker cards, again ranging from very poor and up, make up the last of the notables from the 77-78 release. Moving on to the fabled 1979-80 set offered by O-Pee-Chee, the grouping present here makes up the majority of the collection via approx. 2500+ cards. Featuring no cards of legends Gordie Howe or Bobby Hull, the notables include around 50-60 team checklist cards, some being marked and some not, seven (7) low grade regular series checklists, fifteen (15) team logo cards, approx. fifty (50) star leader cards including names like Bossy, Lafleur, Dryden, Dionne and Trottier and lastly, approx. one hundred (100) star cards including names such as Cheevers, Ratelle, Shutt, Salming, Keon, Potvin, Clarke, McDonald, Perreault, P. Esposito, T. Esposito and Gainey. Once again, the grade ranges go from very poor up to VG-EX at the highest while most are closer to the vicinity of G (GOOD). The last large contingent present is found in the form of approx. one thousand (1000) 1980-81 offerings with the story much the same as the group includes mostly lower grade offerings. Featuring no star power expect for a pair of low-grade Rod Langway RC’s, twelve (12) lower grade and up checklist cards are also included with five (5) remaining unmarked. To finalize the collection around fifty (50) mixed 1980s cards are included in addition to approx. 120 OPC’s from the 1974-75 release that includes a VG grade range Denis Potvin RC. Including approx. seventy-five (75) mini stick-on stamps with only a few stars observed. The last of the mentionables include the likes of around 200 78-79 OPC’s with a few stars, approx. 250 1970s and 1980s OPC baseball cards that are all commons with everything card wise once again in a low-grade and up range as well as small group of 1960s and 1970s Toronto Maple Leafs programs/magazines.
