Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Bringing his star calibre play to the Golden State at the start of the 1988-89 season, Wayne Gretzky spent eight years in the uniform of the Los Angeles Kings, becoming a Hollywood celebrity and triggering the enormous growth of hockey in the Sun Belt Region of the United States. Offered here, is this trio of cards picturing Gretzky as a member of the Kings that have been signed by the man himself. Starting with our oldest of the trio, a 1992-93 Upper Deck “Hockey Heroes” checklist card displaying an artistic rendering of Gretzky over the front includes his autograph in bold blue marker ink that displays without issue. Hand serial numbered “1061/2500” in matching ink over the bottom right corner, the card has a UDA hologram affixed to the reverse and is accompanied by a matching COA. The other two cards, hailing from Upper Deck’s 1990-91 assembly, once again both sport artwork depicting Gretzky on the fronts, one of which commemorates him reaching the 2000-point plateau. Signed with black and silver ink signatures respectively with both displaying without issue, the cards have been deemed authentic by PSA/DNA with the autographs both earning grades of MINT 9. Housed in PSA holders that show some scratches and scuffs over each side, the cards themselves look to be in the vicinity of EX-MT to NM condition.
