Having won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s best rookie for the 1966-67 season, young phenom Bobby Orr would be limited by injuries during his sophomore campaign, suiting up for just 46 games but showing enough to earn his first of eight consecutive Norris Trophy’s as the league’s best defenceman. Offered here, is this Boston Bruins 1967-68 Converse NHL game puck that has been signed by Orr and comes with a great story attached to it.
As told by our consignor, he had the privilege to actually receive this puck directly from Orr during a Bruins vs Red Wings pre-season game that was hosted in Port Huron, MI with our consignor, then eight years old, working as a towel boy in the Bruins locker room. Having done a favour for Phil Esposito, he got Orr to sign the puck for our original owner who had kept it ever since.
Sporting lightly toned orange and black rubber octagon crests for the Bruins on the reverse and the Art Ross Tyre crest on the observe with the Bruins logo showing crazing, the puck shows light surface wear and has a waxy feel to it. Missing chunks are seen over each face and on the side with light cuts also exhibited. Orr has signed over the Bruins logo with a black ink autograph that remains legible despite some lightness appearing at the beginning of “Bobby”. Additionally, Alex Delvecchio has signed the opposite side with a bold black ink signature that continues to display well despite some light fading and smudging.
