A key member of the New York Islanders dynasty that won four consecutive Stanley Cup Championships between 1980 and 1983 and set a National Hockey League record with nineteen (19) consecutive playoff series’ won during the first half of the 1980s, Bob Bourne would spend a dozen years wearing the blue and orange on Long Island. Proudly offered here, is this 1980-81 Islanders jersey worn by Bourne that has been video-matched to the 1981 Stanley Cup Finals versus the Minnesota North Stars, including their Cup clinching Game 5 win on home ice in which Bourne would register 2 of his 3 Finals series points. Made by Sandow SK with the company’s logo heat screened over the reverse hem, brand labeling displaying partially washed-out handwritten designations reading “50 Tall” in ballpoint pen for the size as well as Bourne’s number “14” in red marker are affixed to the inner collar. Decorated over the front with the well-known Islanders crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso of the heavy mesh garment have had Bob’s number “14” sewn to them in blue-over-orange layered tackle twill numerals with “Bourne” spelt out in matching style across the affixed matching mesh nameplate on the upper reverse. Sporting two canvas loop style fight straps on the interior, the jersey exhibits good game-wear throughout with dark stick marks being observed through the team crest as well as over the body and both sleeves. Additionally, light board burns are seen over both sleeves with board paint transfers also found near the left sleeve numbers and at the left shoulder.
Regarding the previously mentioned video-matches, the jersey has been matched to a TV interview with Bourne in the Islanders dressing room on May 21, 1981 following New York’s 5-1 win against the North Stars in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals in which the marks through the “N” of the “NY” in the team crest over the front of the jersey are clearly visible, as is the longer washed out black mark found sitting below the team crest. Furthermore, the marks through the “N” of the “NY” also show in a screen grab image of Bourne with Butch Goring right after he had scored his 10th goal of the playoffs at 10:03 of the 1st period in Game 5 and in a screen grab image of Bourne during the on-ice celebrations with the Stanley Cup after the final game.
