Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Scoring 45 goals in just 60 regular-season games - equivalent to scoring 61 goals in the modern schedule of 82 games, Maurice Richard also added 26 assists for a total of 71 points at the conclusion of the 1946-47 NHL season, while also winning the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's MVP. This team-signed stick was used by the Rocket during the Hart Memorial season of 1946-47 - and it serves as one of the earliest sticks from the legendary superstar that we have ever offered. "Ave. Hotel de Ville 1439 City Hall Ave. Canada" is stamped to both sides of the shaft, with this the address of longtime stick maker Jos. Choquette. "9" is also stamped to the upper shaft, with the original striping accent now gone (the outline remains). The original black tape is intact on the blade, along with the spiral pattern to the handle, with this style matching a Richard gamer from the era that we sold previously. The stick shows wear to the taped section of blade with some separations visible at the heel section. There is also a few marks to the shaft and small areas of white and red paint transfer. 17 have signed one side of the shaft with a number of the signatures quite faded. Signers include Richard, along with Blake, Lach, Reay, Irvin, O'Connor, Bouchard, Fillion, Reardon, Pargeter and others, with many of the signatures illegible. A JSA LOA FOR THE SIGNATURES will accompany.
