Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

Hailing from his early days as a member of the Los Angeles Kings after the jaw dropping trade that ended his tenure as an Edmonton Oiler, offered here is this stick used by Gretzky in either the 1988-89 or 1989-90 season that was originally presented to recently deceased HOFer Borje Salming by “The Great One” himself. A Titan TPM 2020 model with “W. Gretzky” stamped in bold black to the upper shaft, Wayne’s original black “Jack the Gripper” remains in place over the handle/knob while the original black tape is wrapped around the blade. Displaying two mounting holes that have been drilled into the shaft, a smudged and hard to read bold date code reading either “012589” or 012590” is found on the backside of the stick near the bottom of the shaft while a pattern code reading “2-002” is present on the back of the heel. Displaying with good game-use, marks/abrasions are seen throughout the length of the shaft as well as over the heel, blade and blade tape. Additionally, Gretzky has signed the stick near the bottom with a signature and annotation that reads "To Borje, health and happiness to you and your family, Wayne Gretzky". Penned in blue ink, everything displays well with some light fading from age observed. An LOA signed by Salming from the original sale of the stick will accompany the piece.
