Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

O-Pee-Chee was back with a 264-card effort for 1986-87 and the Oilers were back on top of the hockey world at season’s end after the Canadiens’ Stanley Cup victory a year earlier. The heroic efforts of playoff MVP Patrick Roy (and his ensuing formidable career) have made Saint Patrick’s rookie card the focal point of OPC’s ’86-87 set, with the example here having been just recently inspected and encapsulated by the graders at PSA who have deemed this one worthy of a NM-MT 8 mark. With the accompanying 263 cards in the high-grade EX-MT/NM condition range, including the set’s other key rookie offerings of #149 Wendel Clark and #9 John Vanbiesbrouck, other noteworthy cardboard from this assembly in mirroring condition includes #3-Gretzky, #122-Lemieux, #186-Messier, #259-Gretzky Assist Leaders and #260-Gretzky Scoring Leaders. Joining those in the same condition range of EX-MT/NM are the unmarked checklists, #165 and #198 in the set respectively. Of note, the lone condition exception among the notable cards is the set’s lead off card of Ray Bourque who shows light touches to wear to the top corners but still falls in the condition vicinity of EX-MT.
