Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Posting 24 wins on the strength of Turk Broda's goaltending and Gord Drillon's 52 points, the Toronto Maple Leafs finished first in the Canadian Division in 1937-38, and advanced to the semifinals vs Boston. After defeating the Beantowners in three straight games, the Blue and White met the Chicago Black Hawks in the Stanley Cup finals. Team members were gifted small 14k gold medallions for their 1st place finish in the Canadian Division, and we offer the example originally presented to Frank "Buzz" Boll. Approx 1" in diameter with a weight of 10 grams, the Birks medal features a pair of raised players with "National Hockey League" arching above, and "Champions" beneath. The reverse has "F.T. Boll" engraved within the center, with "Toronto Maple Leafs" above and "1938-38" below. There is also a "14k Birks" stamp along the base. The medal is attached to the original 2-ply 5" black ribbon with hanging clasp, with just light handling wear to both the medal and ribbon. The original Birks case is also included with this highly desirable Leafs keepsake. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
