Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

Grabbing the attention of hockey scouts when he was just 12 years old and playing bantam hockey was Parry Sound, Ontario’s Bobby Orr, with this 1966-67 Topps Orr rookie card a definite attention-grabber following its assessment and encapsulation by KSA, the firm deeming it worthy of MINT status. An apparent unblemished surface, pleasing centering and the teenage image of the young man who changed the way defencemen played the game sure are captivating. We detect an extremely light touch to the top left and bottom right corners upon magnification, while more visible is a seemingly yellowish speck, near the bottom edge and below the space between Bobby’s given name and surname. Also meriting mention and difficult to describe is the way that part of the top edge, (most noticeable in the middle), appears to be “pushed down” just a smidgeon. Like us, you’ll be looking and looking at (and admiring!) a superb example of one of the hobby’s most desirable rookie cards when this beauty is delivered – oh, to own a high grade Bobby Orr RC.
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
