Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

Examining this complete assembly of the always popular 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee leads to the discovery of a number of things that contribute to its overall low-grade assessment that make this a prime candidate for someone looking to break into the world of vintage cards. Led by the key rookie card trio of Ken Dryden, Marcel Dionne and Guy Lafleur, the Dryden examples displays multiple creases and is thought of as being in PR condition while Dionne and Lafleur are in the vicinity of G to VG and G conditions respectively with both showing corner wear and contributing to the rounded points exhibited on Guy’s example. Featuring a VG range example of 245-Orr Trophy and a G to VG copy of 114-Clarke that shows creases at the corners, the bulk of the 264-card set shows in the scope of G condition including key cards of 50-Hull (top corner wear), 100-Orr (creased), 251-Orr All-Star (creases), 261-Hull All-Star (crease) and 263-Beliveau (creased). Of note, card #262 of Gordie Howe is in the range of FR to G with creases and corner wear and the two checklist cards are both creased and marked up.
