Playing out of the Omni Coliseum, the Atlanta Flames enjoyed 9 seasons in the NHL before relocating to Calgary in 1980. From the Barry Meisel collection, we offer this Atlanta Flames jersey worn by Jean Lemieux during the mid-1970s. A 3rd round draft pick by the Flames in their inaugural draft class of 1972, Lemieux would play 140 games for the club over three seasons between 1973 and 1976. Sporting Rawlings tagging affixed to the inner collar displaying a size “50” designation, the interior of the jersey features a loop style fight strap on the reverse. Decorated over the front with the Flames team crest in layered red, white and sport gold tackle twill, the sleeves and verso have had Lemieux’s number “6” sewn on in matching material. Void of a nameplate on the upper back, it is worth noting that evidence of a long nameplate having once been affixed for TV games is present with seven (7) team repairs seen from it having been removed afterwards. Riddled with great game-use, dark stick marks along with board burns and board paint transfers are seen over the front, sleeves and lower reverse of the garment with a team repair found near the cuff of the left sleeve as well. An unrepaired hole is seen at the ribcage on the left side while red colour bleed is present under the arms and near the cuff of each sleeve. The interior of the jersey exhibits pilling at the elbows and the bottom of the “6” on the right sleeve shows a tear to the sport gold layer of twill. An LOA from MeiGray will accompany the piece.
