Requiring a two million-dollar payment to the NHL to secure the franchise, the Los Angeles Kings joined the league as part of the 1967 expansion, with the colours purple and gold chosen as they were traditionally associated with royalty. Hailing from the personal collection of Barry Meisel, we offer this beautiful brightly coloured Los Angeles Kings jersey worn by Terry Gray during the clubs inaugural National Hockey League season of 1967-68. Goodman & Sons tagging is affixed inside the rear hem displaying a size “46” size designation along with washing instructions while the original Kings’ crown team crest that features embroidered detailing sits elegantly centered over the front. The sleeves and verso of the jersey have had Gray’s number “7” sewn to them in single layer purple twill. The distinct overlapping V-neck points to first season use during the preseason and/or regular season. Sporting great game-use, the jersey is decorated with dark stick marks throughout the sleeves, lower reverse and lower front while board burns and paint transfers are also seen in the same areas. Team repairs are seen over the left sleeve, the lower front purple stripe and the reverse next to the back number, with an unrepaired hole found under the team crest and a fabric run over the elbow of the right sleeve. Sans fight strap, loose threads and fraying are observed on the interior. A MeiGray LOA will accompany the piece.
