Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Founded on December 4th, 1909, the Montreal Canadiens kicked off their inaugural campaign in the newly minted National Hockey Association wearing a simple blue sweater with a simple white “C” over the front. In honour of that season, the 2009-10 edition of Les Canadiens de Montreal suited up on November 21, 2009 wearing an identical replica of that first blue garment for their matchup with the Detroit Red Wings at the Bell Centre. Offered here, we present the Canadiens jersey worn by Paul Mara that evening. Made by Reebok, a size “58+” label sits affixed to the inner collar with a handwritten “1” (for set 1) seen above in black marker. Crests for the NHL and Reebok adorn the front and back necklines respectively while the front is decorated with a large dual layer white-over-blue tackle twill “C” below a tie lace neckline. The sleeves and verso have had Mara’s number “22” sewn to them in single layer white twill numerals with “Mara” spelt out in matching style on the affixed matching nameplate. The all-important centennial anniversary patch resides over the right shoulder while a Canadiens game-worn jersey tag is sewn to the interior alongside the fight strap. Worn for just a single game, light board burns are seen over the left sleeve underneath the numbers while the rest of the jersey remains in beautiful condition. A Canadiens LOA will accompany.
