Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

One of the most attractive designs to ever grace the NHL, the Washington Capitals red, white and blue jerseys evoke patriotism with both their US flag colour scheme and mounted stars. We offer a desirable vintage mid-to-late 1970s durene specimen. Sporting the proper Wilson labeling to the collar with "48" sizing (wear to the label), "Washington" and "Capitals" is appliqued to the front along with a row of six stars, with "16" in layered tackle twill to the sleeves and verso, with additional rows of stars down each sleeve. The loop-style fight strap is positioned slightly off-center, and we should note evidence of a former nameplate. Exhibiting nice game use, there are a few marks to the team crest, sleeves and over the lower front, with piling to sections of the interior. Team repairs are also visible, with examples situated on the front band, left (2) and right (1) sleeve, as well as the reverse (3). Players that wore #16 during the era include Mike Marson in 1976-77 (10 games) and 1977-78 (46 games), Michel Bergeron in 1978-79 (30 games) and Doug Patey as well in 1978-79 (6 games).
