Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2023
Beginning his career in hockey as a goaltender for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, leading the team to an Allan Cup final in 1921, Charles Hay later served as an administrator with Hockey Canada where he provided guidance and negotiations for the famous Summit Series in 1972. He was also enshrined as a builder to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1974, less than a year after his death. Originally purchased directly from a Hay family estate sale, we have Hay's personal 1972 Canada-Russia program produced for the exhibition match played after the series against Czechoslovakia, on Sept 30, 1972 (the game featured Ken Dryden in net for the Canadians, and finished in a 3-3 tie, with Serge Savard, Pete Mahovlich and J.P. Parise scoring the goals). The date appears on the cover, with the contents featuring small cameo images of each member of Team Canada. In beautiful condition with just two small creases to the cover the only concern, an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
