Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

Winning Calder Cup and NCAA championships before reaching the NHL, Joe Murphy was selected 1st overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 1986 and spent his first four seasons with the club before being traded to Edmonton in 1989-90. From his final season in Motor City, where he saw action in just 9 games before moving on to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers, we have Murphy's 1989-90 Red Wings jersey. East Side labeling is affixed to the collar with the sizing tag cut, with the jersey measuring out to a size 50. Featuring the classic Red Wings team crest with embroidered detailing, "10" is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single white twill, with "Murphy" arching over the upper reverse in matching material. There is also a CCM logo over the reverse hem. Seeing action in just 9 games, the jersey shows light to moderate wear including marks over the team crest, lower front and sleeves. The dual-clasp fight strap is intact, and we should note pinholes on the shoulders/sleeves, most likely from being mounted in a frame previously.
