Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2022
Happening exactly 50 years ago to the day as of this writing, Paul Henderson’s goal with 34 seconds left in game 8 of the Summit Series against the Soviet Union lifted Canada to the top of the hockey world and is one of the biggest moments in Canadian history. Hailing from the historic contest, is this ticket stub for game 8 at the Luzhniki Palace of Sports in Moscow. Trading goals throughout much of the contest, the Soviets went up by two late in the second, with Canada tying things up in the third before Henderson potted “The Goal”. Measuring roughly 2 ½” x 4 ½” at its longest parts, the thin paper ticket lists the game, date, venue and seat in Cyrillic, with a line drawing of the Luzhniki seating bowl on the reverse. With a rough torn edge at the left side, the stub shows crisp colours and remains crease free with fairly strong corners.
