Never achieving the same success as their provincial counterparts in Montreal during their days in the National Hockey League, the Quebec Nordiques could be considered one of the darling teams of the WHA, winning the AVCO Cup in 1977. Offered here, is this collection of Nordiques based paraphernalia including a Guy Lafleur game-issued stick, a pair of game-used gloves, training suits from both the Nordiques and Avalanche, numerous autographs and a quartet of pucks. Led by a Guy Lafleur game-issued stick, the Chimo made GLM 999 model twig, used by Lafleur between 1989 and 1991, displays “Lafleur G. 10” stampings over the upper shaft while numerous marks/abrasions from handling are observed over the length of the shaft. Additionally, “The Flower” has signed the blade with a bold silver ink signature that displays without issue. Also included, is a pair of game-used CCM Supra gloves. Displaying heavy wear throughout through staining, scuffs and fraying, heavy rubbing and holes are found to the palms as well. Nordiques logo patches are sewn over each cuff. Number “21” identifiers are penned in black ink to the wrist of gauntlet with only John Tonelli wearing similar CCM models during his time with the Nordiques in the period of time these come from. Also included, is a Nordiques Starter brand nylon tracksuit, a polo shirt, and a Colorado Avalanche nylon training jacket, all in good condition, the polo (XL) shows the heaviest wear of the group with everything else only displaying light wear the training jackets and pants are all size large with everything displaying team and NHL logos. Moving onto autographs, two 1994-95 team picture foam boards are included, with one having been signed 16 members of that years club including Sakic, Forsberg, Nolan and Deadmarsh. Additional autographed cards of individual players are also included, with examples from Sakic, Forsberg, Clark, Sundin and Lafleur to name a few. Rounding out the lot are four Nordiques related pucks including two AHL Cornwall Aces game slugs. Hailing from the collection of Lorne Goldenberg, his signed LOA will accompany the group.
Lorne Goldenberg has worked as a strength and conditioning coach for the Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks, Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, Windsor Spitfires, and the Ottawa 67s. He lectures internationally on a variety of topics, including stability ball exercises and ground-based sport conditioning, for groups such as the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Society of Weight Training Injury Specialists, provincial associations, and professional teams. He has written for the NSCA Journal of Strength and Conditioning, Ironman, Physical, Men’s Journal, Hockey Life, and Hockey Now.
