Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

O-Pee-Chee was back with a 264-card effort for 1986-87 and the Oilers were back on top of the hockey world at season’s end after the Canadiens’ Stanley Cup victory a year earlier. The heroic efforts of playoff MVP Patrick Roy (and his ensuing formidable career) have made Saint Patrick’s rookie card the focal point of OPC’s ’86-87 set, with the example here found in the range of EX-MT+ with some corner wear at the bottom right and off-centered left to right. The remaining 263-cards are found in an overall high-grade of EX-MT to NM scope including those of 3-Gretzky, 137-Coffey, 186-Messier and 259-Gretzky Assist Leaders. Mario Lemieux’s 2nd year card is seen in the vicinity of EX-MT due to centering issues and a print line while rookie cards of John Vanbiesbrouck (top right corner fuzziness) and Wendel Clark (slight corner wear) are in the range of EX-MT+ and EX/EX-MT respectively. Other notables in the scope of EX-MT include offerings of 1-Bourque, 11-Yzerman (small dent at the bottom border), and 260-Gretzky Scoring Leaders (top right corner ding). Both checklists remain unmarked and in the condition vicinity of EX-MT to NM while two copies of cards #135 and #136 are present. Of note, card #12 shows surface damage.
