Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Nicknamed “The Chief”, George Armstrong served as captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs for 18 of his 21 years spent in the NHL, all in the uniform of the blue and white, leading the Buds to four (4) Stanley Cups in that time. His first cardboard offering, Armstrong appears here in desirable EX-MT+ 6.5 form on card #51 of the 1952-53 Parkhurst set, the year of his first full season in the league, in which he contributed 25 points. Off center bottom-to-top, the card shows smooth edges and a clean front while all four corners show touches of wear. The back exhibits a light red coloured stain through “Toronto” while also being off center. Slabbed by PSA, the holder shows a number of small light scratches over both the front and back while the company’s pop report shows that only 22 examples of the card have scored higher grades, with none scoring higher than 8. Don’t let this eye catching offering of one of hockey’s all-time greats pass you by.
