Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022

A hobby favorite thanks to in part its nifty designs and fab lineup is Parkhurst’s last hockey card effort of the 1960s, with the set offered here dominated by (57) cards in inviting EX-or-better condition. We rate Gordie Howe’s classic card #55 as an EX+ contributor, while a nice group of stars and rookies are mostly EX+ or EX-MT (some are a tad or two higher) and include both versions of Horton, Richard, Beliveau, Geoffrion, Ferguson RC, Berenson RC and Harper RC, as well as 50-Delvecchio, 52-Ullman and 77-Mahovlich - nice. With EX-MT characteristics is 42-Faulkner RC, affected however by minor moisture damage/staining limited to the upper back. A majority of cards not making it to EX are not far off; corner wear/light dings send some two dozen to the VG+ to VG-EX+ range, with 53-Sawchuk (VG+) among them. We see the 99-Maniago RC as an attractive VG entry, while six Maple Leafs (1-Stanley, 9-Shack, 75-Keon) have top or bottom edge notches, sometimes seen with ’63-64 Parkies, but otherwise average EX. Seven creased cards in the VG neighborhood include 27-Laperriere RC, 40-Maniago RC and 69-Shack, while 98-Worsley (P) is the lone battered low grader present. It was a memorable last hurrah for Parkhurst – you’ll say “hooray!” or something like that, after securing these charmers.
