Bobby, Bobby, Bobby! – Orr scores NM-MT 8 at PSA to lead this inviting set of 1967-68 cards, issued during the season the young superstar was following up his rookie campaign by continuing to drop hockey observers’ jaws, en route to his first of eight straight Norris Trophy wins. Bobby’s second-year (#92) card boasts cherished precise centering, while his All-Star and Calder Trophy cards make for a delectable NM-MT 8 hat trick. That other Bobby – Hull – was also performing quite well(!) at the time, with card #113 here slabbed an appealing NM+ 7.5. Joining Orr as condition leaders are six other 8s; 11-Keon, 42-Bucyk, 57-Dryden RC, 64-Mikita Triple, 65-Hall/DeJordy Vezina and 74-Beliveau. Some star and rookie card power is among a dozen cards graded NM 7 and include RCs of 33-Sanderson, 38-Sather and 75-Vachon, legends 16-Horton, 72-Richard and 79-Mahovlich and the #66-1st Series Checklist. Rounding out the encapsulated portion are five (NM 7) commoners; #s 10, 18, 49, 68 and 125. As for the raw roster, it is actually complete at 132 cards, with however most of the duplicates of the graded cards markedly lower grade. An EX-MT 113-Hull card and 75-Vachon RC (EX (MK)) are exceptions, while our view of the three Orr's is as follows: #92 (VG with a classic factory-caused vertical wrinkle), 118-Calder (VG+) and 128-All-Star (F). Amid the remainder are mostly EX-MT and better examples, with numerous NM-or-higher beauties to come upon, with 32-Esposito, 43-Howe and 120-2nd Series Checklist making it to NM. A Jacques Lemaire RC (EX+), 1-Worsley (EX) and 99-Cheevers (EX+ (ST)) are also worthy of mention. We spotted just two lightly-creased commons and a bit of pen writing on the reverse of 101-Ullman. In summary, all sorts of alluring elements merit ample consideration – lots like this do not often come around. Once again, our consignor has been a stickler on the condition of the PSA holders – they have been very well cared for.
