After posting better than point-per-game numbers in each of his three seasons with the Shawinigan Bruins of the QMJHL, Yves Bergeron joined the Quebec Nordiques of the WHA for the league’s first season of play in 1972-73 with this Nords jersey worn by Bergeron during that inaugural season and his only spent playing in the rival league. Made by Tricot Sport Maska with the original brand and partially-detached laundry tagging still affixed to the inner collar, the vintage durene sweater measures out to roughly a size 42. The front is styled with a period proper team crest in layered tackle-twill, which at one time was removed from the front by the team for recycling purposes and properly restored at a later date. The sleeves and verso of the tie neck sweater have been accented with Bergeron’s number “17” in similar twill material. moderate game-use is exhibited throughout the sweater with a pair of stick marks to the right sleeve and one on the back of the left shoulder as well. Pilling is seen on the interior at the elbows, hem and cuffs with small burns also seen on the outside of each elbow. Additionally, a fabric run is found near the right cuff with a stain present on the left collarbone. A remarkable piece from the first season of the only league to ever challenge the NHL, an LOA will accompany.
