Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Despite his prowess as the unofficial leader of the Montreal Canadiens throughout his NHL tenure, legendary superstar Guy Lafleur first donned the mighty maple leaf of his nation at the 1976 Canada Cup. The Flower would see action in all seven of Canada’s matches, scoring six points, including a goal in the 6-0 win over Czechoslovakia in the first game of the final at Maple Leaf Gardens. Guy would again wear the white and red in 1981, in both the IIHF World Championships and the second installment of the Canada Cup. This Team Canada jersey hails from the first set of whites worn by the team in just pre-tournament practices and inter-squad games only, with these specimens sporting a cross-over neckline and no reinforced elbows. Athletic Knit labeling with “44” sizing is affixed to the collar, with the team crest, maple leaf, “10” on the sleeves and verso and “Lafleur” all rubberized in red. Showing wear to the material with marks to the sleeves and red and blue paint transfer near the cuffs, there is also some staining/discolouration in areas including over the lower front. An LOA will accompany this patriotic treasure.
