The first dynasty that the National Hockey League ever saw, the Ottawa Senators won four of the franchise’s 11 Stanley Cup Championships after joining the NHL as a charter member in 1917 with victories in 1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927. Presented here is this incredible mid-1920s Ottawa Senators real photo postcard collection of 11 including HOFers Clancy, Connel, Boucher, Nighbor and Smith. Measuring an average size of approx. 3 ½” x 5 ½”, each post card displays its subject posing leaning on their stick in full uniform. All the postcards except for that of Reginald "Hooley" Smith have “The Hands Studios Ottawa, Can” embossed into the bottom right or left corners. The main group of postcards dates to either 1925-26 or the 1926-27 Stanley Cup Championship season with examples of Clancy, Connel, Boucher, Nighbor, Smith, Kilrea, Finnigan, Smith and an unknown that appears to be Edwin Gorman. Two additional postcards from 1927-28 are included of Leonard Grosvenor and Jean Chouinard, dated by both having the 1927 World Champions patch on their sweaters. All remain in admirable condition with handling, edge and corner wear present along with toning to both the fronts and backs. It should be noted that surface wear is also present on some with the heaviest found on the Nighbor postcard while the Connel example shows a surface spot and creasing. Pencil writing is present on the backs of Boucher and Grosvenor. Overall, a fantastic collection from when the NHL was still in its infancy.
