The first Cognizant Classic professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour in south Florida, founded in 1972 as the Jackie Gleason Inverrary Classic, the tournament during the era was among the richest events on tour with an inaugural purse of $260,000 and a $52,000 winner's share. Tom Weiskopf outdueled Jack Nicklaus by one shot to win the first edition in 1972. We have a magazine program from the inaugural event, and it has been signed by approx 49 individuals. Featuring Gleason on the cover, the program has been signed over a number of pages in blue ballpoint, with signers to include Joe Namath, Norm Van Broklin, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Sam Snead, Gary Player, Julius Boros, Gardner Dickinson, Johnny Miller, Tommy Bolt, Dave Marr, Tom Weiskopf, Ray Floyd, Gene Littler, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Doug Saunders, Dave Stockton, George Archer, Tommy Aaron, Don January, Bob Goalby, Bruce Crampton, Bobby Nichols, Lou Graham, Bob Murphy, Gibby Gilbert, Miller Barber, Bruce Fleischer, Dick Lotz, Rod Funseth, Tom Shaw, Gay Brewer, Frank Beard, Dale Douglas, Bud Allin, Dan Sikes, Kermit Zarley, Fred Martl, Mike Hill, John Schlee, Pete Brown, Mac McLendon and a few others. Most of the sinatures display well despite some being bunched-up, with general wear from considerable handling to the program including to the covers and along the spine.
