Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
From an incredible time as far as the history of hockey is concerned with Canada having just beaten the Soviet Union in the Summit Series and the introduction of a new league rival to the NHL in the form of the WHA, offered here is this complete 341-card set of O-Pee-Chee’s 1972-73 release that falls in a very respectable mid-grade scope of EX/EX-MT with some better examples included. Led by two PSA inspected and encapsulated offerings in the form of two Bobby’s, in this case Clarke (EX-MT 6) beats out Orr (EX 5) by one grade point. Speaking of Bobby Orr, two other cards of the dominant defenseman, including 58-In Action and 227-All-Star examples, fall in the condition range of EX-MT as does card #111 of Bruins teammate, Phil Esposito. Other key cards include 2nd year offerings of 8-Dionne in EX/EX-MT range while Montreal teammates 59-Lafleur (slight bottom left corner wear) and 145-Dryden fall in the vicinity of EX-MT+ in our eyes. On the WHA side of things, star offerings of former NHL stars including 336-Hull and 340-Cheevers fall in the condition range of EX-MT/NM with the Hull off-centered left-to-right. Lastly, all four checklists remain unmarked with 6-checklist and 190-checklist in EX/EX-MT range, 19-checklist falling at EX-MT and 333-checklist in the vicinity of EX-MT/NM. Overall, a fun trip back in time awaits the new owner.
