Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Card enthusiasts not fond of creases but who do not require high, high grades will be attracted to this assembly of good old 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee cards, with hardly a crease spotted and examples in the VG-EX to EX range dominating, joined by smaller percentages of VG, VG+, EX+ and EX-MT representatives. As our title informs, Bobby and Bobby lead in PSA NM 7 form, with Hull’s 204-All-Star issue at EX and 200-Orr All-Star appearing similar at first glance but lowered to VG+ by a small light crease commencing in the left border. Refreshingly, Orr’s regular (#2) issue does not exhibit an obvious/unpleeasant diamond cut, with corner/edge/surface wear sending it to VG+. Key rookie cards are those of Bernie Parent (VG+) and Mickey Redmond (VG-EX+), while 29-Gordie Howe (VG+) includes a horizontal production-caused wrinkle, similar to a few others, with 34-Sawchuk one of only a few creased entries. Although present, 1st Series cards with diamond cuts are less prevalent/obvious than usual, while 2nd Series contributors are overall nicer. Unmarked checklists are highlighted by 121-1st Series (VG with two small creases), with numerous surface issues (scratches, indentations, soiling) affecting 61-2nd Series. Multiple appearances by several legends thanks to the groovy specials at the end always make for a fun time when ’68-69 OPCs are secured. A light one-inch scuff in the holder of the Orr card is to note but does not affect the image of the young superstar.
