Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/21/2022
The most important signature in any advanced hockey collection, Lord Frederick Arthur Stanley served as Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893, at which time he famously donated the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup – later to be known as the Stanley Cup. We offer a signature cut from the legendary politician, with this specimen penned after his accession as the 16th Earl of Derby, as it is signed simply “Derby”. At approx 2 ½” x 2 ½”, the small square sheet appears to be cut from a letter or document, as handwritten text appears on the reverse and above the signature, along with “Yours Sincerely”. Fashioned in dark ink, the signature remains bold and displays nicely with no issues, with spotting and toning to the sheet itself along with residue on the reverse from scrapbook removal. This candidate is ideal to be mounted with a period photo or image. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
