Featuring Motor City after the departure of longtime superstar Gordie Howe, previously with Detroit since 1946, we offer a vintage Red Wings jersey worn in the early-to-mid-1970s. Rawlings labeling is affixed to the collar with “48” sizing, with “P” handwritten. Featuring a fully embroidered Red Wings team crest and “24” in single white twill sewn to the sleeves and verso, there is a garter-style fight strap, with this appearing to be a period replacement strap that was mounted over the original base of the first strap. There are no signs of alternations to the team crest or numbers, with some puckering visible within the jersey to the back of each. There are also a few marks to the front and sleeves, with team repairs present, with examples situated to the lower reverse and left sleeve (3). We should also note that the jersey was most likely recycled by the club for additional use, with possibly candidates for use wearing the #24 to include Brian Conacher in 1971-72 (played 22 games), Ken Murray in 1972-73 (played 31 games), Brent Hughes in 1973-74 (played 69 games), Frank Bathe in 1974-75 (19 games), as well as Tom Mellor (1 game), Rick McCann (13 games) and Rene Drolet (1 game).
