Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022

With a career spanning over five decades, Gordie Howe is regarded as one of the best and possibly the best to ever play the game of hockey, playing in both the NHL and WHA for a total of 32 seasons, winning four (4) Stanley Cups and two (2) AVCO Cups. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, we offer this stick issued to the legend in the late-1960s as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. A Northland Custom Pro Glass Fused model, “Howe” appears stamped onto the lower shaft, with additional stamps for the Red Wings equipment provider, Olympic Sporting Goods Co., gracing each side of the upper shaft. Sporting two different types of black type on the blade, which doesn’t match up with Howe’s familiar style, there is no evidence of tape ever having been placed over the knob/handle. A “Lie No 6” pattern, the stick remains in good condition with puck marks seen over the untapped sections of the blade, heel and lower shaft while a mostly intact striping accent still resides over the lower shaft. Additional marks, red paint, and dried residue are seen throughout the rest of the shaft with a couple of edge chips/cracks to the shaft also seen.
